The ONLY sim I can edit relationships with is the sim I created and regularly play with. What exactly where you clicking around to get the relationships in order? Because I have been on CAS plenty of times trying to get the relationships right and all it says is "cannot edit pre existing sims" no matter what I do. I think part of my problem however, was because I had to change myself from young adult to adult, as I had made myself in the demo originally. 
We just finally kept clicking around on it until it was correct. It was also showing my son as his brother, instead of uncle and nephew.
It would show them as mother and son and she and I were daughter and mother, but it was showing him as my son? But finally, after messing around with it a bit, it gave us the correct relationships. I had difficulty getting it to allow me to set my grandson as my grandson in cas, after making him my daughter's son.
